Woman fined for leaving her cat on street

A woman who left her kitten under a tree has been caught by police teams and has been punished with a fine of 2,724 Turkish Liras.

The woman, identified only by the initials S.Ç., who left her newborn cat under a tree on the boulevard in the eastern province of Elazığ, was fined 2,724 liras for the crime of "abandoning pets."

University students in Turkey’s east ‘colored’ in festival

Within the scope of the "Fırat Fest," a 20-day spring festival organized by Fırat University, a "Color Festival" was held in the eastern province of Elazığ for the first time.

Some 5,000 university students participated in the "Color Festival," held in a social complex by the Lake Hazar and threw powdered paint at each other.

Medical student studies at library he once worked as laborer

A medical student is now studying in the very same university's library where he once worked as a construction worker in 2017 in the eastern province of Elazığ.

"I have gained success after real hard work. I am happy, and this is a fantastic feeling," 23-year-old Hasan Coşkun told the Demirören News Agency.

Magnitude 5.2 quake shakes eastern Turkey

A magnitude-5.2 earthquake struck Turkey's eastern province of Bingöl on June 25, according to the country's disaster agency.

The Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) said the quake struck the Kiğı district at 9.28 p.m. local time (1828GMT).

It occurred at a depth of 15.51 kilometers (9.63 miles) below the surface, it said.

Turkey’s energy map becomes greener as renewables expand countrywide

Turkey's renewables expansion, driven by hydro, wind and solar energies, places the province of İzmir as a leader in wind power and Konya as a pioneer in solar energy, data compiled by the state-run Anadolu Agency reveals.

Of the country's total renewables capacity of 50,990 megawatts (MW), hydropower stood at 31,280 MW, wind power reached 9,543 MW and solar totaled 7,070 MW.
