Turkey to build 10,000 residences in Elazığ district

Turkey readies itself to accelerate urban transformation projects as some 10,000 residences for a satellite city will be constructed in the quake-hit eastern Elazığ province's Yemişlik district.

The magnitude 6.8 quake of Jan. 24 caused 37 deaths in Elazığ province, about 550 km (340 miles) east of Ankara, and four in neighboring Malatya.

Today A 5.1 magnitude earthquake struck the province again, Marmara University Candili Research Center, which specializes in seismological studies, was quoted by Sputniknews.

According to the report, the epicenter of the quake was at a depth of 7.2 kilometers.

There are currently no reports of new casualties and injuries.

Man slashes tires of 160 cars after deadly earthquake

An unidentified man late on Jan. 24 slashed the tires of at least 160 vehicles in the southeastern province of Diyarbakır after a 6.8-magnitude earthquake jolted Turkey's east.

Surveillance footage from Diyarbakır's Bismil district showed that an unidentified man flattened the tires with a knife, right after a powerful earthquake in eastern Elazığ province.

Turkey quake kills at least 22, rescuers dig for survivors

The death toll from a powerful earthquake in eastern Turkey reached 22 on Jan. 25, as rescuers searched for survivors trapped under the rubble of collapsed buildings.    

The magnitude 6.8 quake late on Jan. 24 shook Elazığ province, about 550 km (340 miles) east of the capital Ankara, and was followed by more than 390 aftershocks, 14 of which had magnitudes over 4.   

Man receives aggravated life sentence in femicide case

The murderer of 20-year-old ballerina Ceren Özdemir was sentenced to aggravated life imprisonment in the second hearing of Turkey's high-profile femicide case.

A psychiatric examination report of the suspect Özgür Arduç, 36, said that his abilities of mental abstraction and evaluating the reality were normal.
