Tasoulas elected Parliament Speaker with broad, five-party backing
Veteran New Democracy MP (representing the district of Ioannina) Konstantinos Tasoulas has been elected Parliament Speaker with an unprecedented 283 votes in the 300-seat legislature.
Tasoulas was supported by five of the legislature's six parties (New Democracy, SYRIZA, Movement for Change, Elliniki Lysi, and MeRa 25).

Amputated horse left to die by Roma – Who will help? (Pics)
An amputated horse lies distressed in the yard of an old biological factory in Ioannina, north-western Greece. Unhelped, with an open wound, the animal had been lying in the heat in dire straits until the animal shelter of Ioannina (www.zoosos.gr) was informed. The animal appears to be suffering as its right leg has been slashed.
Vile! Another instance of dead horses reported – this time in NW Greece
A second shocking instance of dead horses surfaced on Friday when residents in the mountainous Papigo region of Ioannina prefecture, NW Greece, reported the discovery of two carcasses of wild horses.
