Turkish court arrests two suspects in Berlin truck attack

Two men suspected of links to the slain perpetrator of an Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) attack on a Christmas market in Berlin last year were arrested by an Istanbul court on March 21.      

Bilal Y.M. and Youssef D. were arrested for membership in an armed terrorist organization under an investigation by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office.      

Girl gets pregnant after being sexually abused despite complaints she filed with court in Turkey's west

A 14-year-old child was left pregnant through sexual abuse after her complaints regarding her uncle's molestations were ignored by a court in the Örencik village of the Kiraz district in the western province of İzmir. The village previously made headlines when it emerged that girls were being sold for marriage.

Turkish journalist Tayfun Talipoğlu dies aged 55

Journalist Tayfun Talipoğlu died early on March 21 in the western province of İzmir after falling ill, state-run Anadolu Agency has reported. He was 55.

Talipoğlu felt faint at his residence in the Güzelyalı neighborhood of the Konak district at around 1 a.m., after which family members immediately informed emergency services about his condition.

Three suspects linked to perpetrator of ISIL attack on Berlin market caught in Istanbul airport

Three suspects allegedly linked to the slain perpetrator of an Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) attack on a Christmas market in Berlin last year have been apprehended at Istanbul's Atatürk Airport, Turkey's Interior Ministry announced on March 20.

Human traffickers, 83 migrants caught on luxury yacht

The Turkish Coast Guard has captured 83 people trying to cross into Italy illegally from the Aegean resort town of Çeşme in a U.S.-flagged luxury yacht. 

Some 82 of the smuggled migrants were Syrian, while one was an Afghan, according to security sources. 

Three more people on board, all of whom were Ukrainians, were also detained on suspicion they were part of the crew. 

289 migrants caught off Turkey's coasts

A total of 289 migrants were apprehended off Turkey's Aegean and Mediterranean coasts over the past week, Turkish Interior Ministry announced on March 12.

Between March 3 and March 10, Turkish Coast Guards intercepted 289 migrants in seven separate incidents and arrested seven migrant smugglers, the ministry's written statement read.

Turkish 'serial killer' given aggravated life sentences over committing three murders

A court in Istanbul ordered on March 9 two times aggravated life-term sentences for Atalay Filiz, a Turkish "serial killer" who became widely known after committing a series of murders, Doğan News Agency has reported.

Filiz, 30, accused of murdering three people, including a Russian national, was sentenced on charges of "committing deliberate murder."
