Restoration by 50 women expected to lure 1 mln visitors

A team of 50 women including restorers, architects and engineers are involved in the works initiated to restore historical buildings in the eastern province of Kars, with the efforts expected to lure 1 million visitors.

Within the scope of the project, facade improvement is being carried out for 22 registered and 10 unregistered buildings on Haydar Aliyev Street.

Over 50 migrants pushed back in Aegean rescued

Turkish Coast Guard units rescued 52 migrants off the coast of İzmir province after they were pushed back by Greek authorities.

The Coast Guard Command said on Feb. 15 in a statement they learned that there was a group of migrants in life rafts off Dikili, Seferihisar, Foça and Çeşme districts and dispatched units to the areas.

Two earthquakes hit Caucasus, stirring panic in Turkey’s northeast

Two consecutive earthquakes which struck Georgia and Armenia have caused panic among residents living in Turkey's northeastern border provinces.

The first earthquake of magnitude 5.3 rocked the city of Shirak, an Armenian settlement located on the border with Turkey, late on Feb. 13, according to initial data from the European-Mediterranean Seismological Center.

Woman turns hayloft into local cultural center

A mother of one in the eastern province of Kars has converted the hayloft of her house into a cultural center, exhibiting traditional objects of the region.

The 39-year-old Ebru Akbaba Demir is waiting for all the local tourists who come to the province after a train ride with the Orient Express to visit the "cultural hayloft."
