Two ISIL terror suspects nabbed in Turkey

Two suspects with alleged links to the ISIL terror group were arrested in Turkey, security sources said on Aug. 4.

Anti-terror police teams in the Black Sea province of Samsun launched an operation to nab one suspect in the Ilkadim district, according to sources who asked not to be named due to restrictions on speaking to the media.

Court jails three over 2014 Soma disaster

A court has handed out long prison sentences to an executive of a company and two engineers over a 2014 mining disaster that killed 301 people in the Soma district of the western province of Manisa.

The Akhisar Heavy Penal Court on June 16 sentenced Can Gürkan, the chairman of the executive board of the mining company Soma Kömürleri, to 20 years in prison.

Sniffer dog ‘Volta’ retires after 10 years of service

A sniffer dog named Volta has retired after serving for ten years in the gendarmerie forces in the western province of Manisa.

The Pointer breed dog's carrier in the gendarmerie forces began in 2011.

Volta assisted the local anti-smuggling and organized crime squad in the province of Manisa in 2016.

King graves under threat of destruction

Located in Turkey's western province of Manisa, the 2,700-year-old Bintepeler Tumuli, known to be the graves of Lydian kings, were plundered by treasure hunters, destroying the graves with construction equipment to quite an extent.

While two tumuli were feared to have been destroyed completely, works have been initiated to protect nearly 90 tumuli present in the region.

Turkey in top 4 countries with geothermal capacity: Erdoğan

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said on Jan. 16 that Turkey is among the top four nations globally in geothermal energy and stressed the importance of renewable energy investments.
