Garbage piles up around Tahtalı Stream
As trash and debris have piled up alongside the stream in the western province of İzmir's Menderes district that feeds into the Tahtalı Dam, a significant supply of drinking water for the city has come under an alarming threat.
The dumping of garbage and debris next to Tahtalı Stream, flowing into Tahtalı Dam, which meets İzmir's drinking water needs, has caused an outrage.

‘Garden of mercy’ hosts disabled, attacked animals
Two women have established a farm called the "garden of mercy" in the Aegean province of İzmir and have provided shelter to over 150 disabled or sexually assaulted animals.
Yeliz Tın and Ahu Sungur launched a project and established a farm for stray and abandoned animals so that they can live in better conditions.

Turkey rescues 172 asylum seekers in Aegean Sea
The Turkish Coast Guard rescued a total of 172 asylum seekers off İzmir province since Aug. 30.

Two killed in İzmir floods
At least two people have died after a light commercial vehicle was swept away by floodwaters in the western province of İzmir.
Due to heavy rainfall, a stream in the province of İzmir's Menderes district overflowed on Dec. 13, and the vehicle carrying five people started drifting away as it attempted to cross the stream.
