Defendants of Mersin attack face aggravated life sentences

Low tide reveals ruins of ancient port in southern Turkey
The remains of an ancient port in Turkey's southern province of Mersin's Mezitli district have come to light due to the receding water levels resulting from a low tide.
Some portions of the port, which is part of the ancient city of Soli Pompeipolis, could be seen as the water levels decreased.
Large quantity of heroin, opium seized
A large number of illegal drugs were seized in anti-narcotic operations in Turkey on Nov. 30, officials said.
Over 50 kg (over 110 lbs.) heroin and 150 liters of acetic anhydride, a chemical compound used in heroin production, were seized in southeast Hakkari province.

Archaeologists reach inner walls in site of ancient Greek poet’s tomb in Turkey’s south
Excavation teams have reached the inner walls of a memorial tomb of the ancient Greek didactic poet Aratus in the Mediterranean province of Mersin's Mezitli district.
The archaeologists, led by academic Remzi Yağcı from Dokuz Eylül University, have been carrying out excavations to unearth the memorial tomb of the Hellenic-era astronomer and poet in what was then called Soli.
Tomb of Aratos found in southern Turkey
A memorial tomb of mathematician and scientist Aratos, who was the founder of astrology science and lived between 315-245, has been found in the southern province of Mersin's Mezitli district. The tomb is believed to lie within the excavation area of Soli Pompeiopolis ancient city, which dates back 3,500 years.

Excavations end at ancient Soli
Excavation works on the ancient site of Soli Pompeiopolis have ended for the season in the southern province of Mersin's Mezitli district.
Archaeological teams brought to light various artifacts from a villa from the Late Roman Era to sesterces, an ancient Roman coin, during the 17th round of works on Soli, one of the most important port cities of the Roman era.
