South African scientists have identified a new variant of the virus that causes COVID-19, and the World Health Organization gave it the spy fantastic name "omicron" within days, due to a series of mutations in its protein spikes, nanomechanical tentacles that connect and break into cells, scientific alarms have begun to sound off, writes Wired.

Students remove plates from FYROM car at name deal protest

Students at a rally in Thessaloniki on Thursday against the Prespes name agreement with the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia removed the license plates from a car from the neighboring country that was in a central parking lot.

The plates carried the country code MK, standing for Macedonia, and SK for Skopje.

Tragedy with a Canadian Youth Hockey Team, 14 dead

14 people were killed in a crash between a truck and a minibus carrying a Canadian youth hockey team, AFP reported.
 
The incident took place in the Saskatchewan province around 17 hours local time. Athletes are between 16 and 21 years of age. There were 28 people in the van, 14 of whom died, among them the driver.

Turkey marks what it calls the Çanakkale War - known in English as the Battle of Gallipoli - every year on March 18, when Ottoman forces repelled an Allied World War I assault on the Dardanelles in 1915.
