Toplofikatsiya Subscribers Not To Be Able To Dispute Duration of Lack of Heating

Customers of Toplofikatsiya Sofia will not be able to dispute the reporting made by the venture as to whether they have been left without heating supply for more than 48 hours, which would deprive them of compensation, stated Georgi Belovski, director of the venture, before the energy committee with Sofia Municipality on Thursday.

Free Public Transport Options to Be Discussed in Days - Sofia Mayor

Mayor Yordanka Fandakova has said the steps to fight air pollution in Sofia, including making public transport free as an emergency measure will be submitted to Sofia Municipality in a few days.

While the measure will not be introduced before the spring, a number of other moves are being made that would help address the issue, she has told the Bulgarian National Television.

School Holiday Gets Extended in Sofia

Schools in Bulgaria's capital will remain closed through Tuesday, January 10, Sofia Municipality has said.

It has cited the Code Orange forecast - which supposes low temperatures (a minimum of -20 degrees Celsius and a maximum of -13) on Monday and similar conditions on Tuesday.

Whether schools in the capital will open on Wednesday is not yet clear.

Another Sofia Deputy Mayor Steps Down

Sofia Mayor Yordanka Fandakova says she has accepted the resignation of her deputy Mariya Boyadzhiyska, who was in charge of environmental issues.

Boyadzhiyska declared she was stepping down earlier this week, on Tuesday, daily 24 Chasa quotes Fandakova as saying.

"We talked, I tried to talk her out of it, but she has personal reasons to step down."

First Sofia Metro Line Running Again after Monday Failure

The technical breakdown that brought the Red Line of Sofia Metro to a standstill on Monday evening has been dealt with, local officials say.

The oldest tramways in Sofia, which are more than half a century old, will be decommissioned within a month, stated the Executive Director of Sofia Electric Transport Evgeny Ganchev.

These will be replaced by second-hand tramways purchased from the Czech Republic by Sofia Municipality. 15 of those are already in operation and the remaining 5 will be launched.
