The Regional Health Inspectorate in Stara Zagora expects the incidence of influenza and acute respiratory diseases (ARIs) to exceed 330 per 10,000 people in the coming week and suggested to the members of the Regional Influenza Control Staff that an epidemic be declared for the period January 17-23 incl.

Twenty-five out of the 28 districts in Bulgaria are Covid-19 "red zones", meaning an infection rate of 120 or higher out of 100 000 population, according to a report by the National Centre for Infectious and Parasitic Diseases for the 14-day period ending May 9.

A huge fire broke out at the largest coal power plant in Bulgaria - Maritsa-Iztok 2 TPP. The flames burned the chimney of the sulfur-purifying station at the plant. No injured people, the authorities assured that there is no danger of air pollution.

Bulgarian police detained early on Sunday a group of ten Syrian illegal migrants, as they were traveling through the territory of the district of Stara Zagora.

The illegal migrants were uncovered in the cargo compartment of a van and the driver of the vehicle was also detained.
