Nationalist Movement Party's (MHP) leader Devlet Bahçeli has launched a scathing critique against the Peoples' Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party) in the aftermath of last week's deadly PKK attacks, arguing that Treasury aid to the party should be immediately severed.

A total of 15 official requests seeking the revocation of parliamentary immunity for 12 deputies have been submitted to the speaker's office.

The reports were subsequently referred to a mixed council comprised of the parliament's constitution and justice commission, for further review.

The Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office announced on Feb. 25 that it had launched an investigation into the fourth Ordinary Congress of the Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) after the party played a slideshow that featured photographs of imprisoned Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) leader Abdullah Öcalan.

The jailed leader of the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), Abdullah Öcalan, was captured and brought to Turkey on Feb. 15, 1999. Turkey had taken the risk of going to war if necessary when it called on Syria to return Öcalan, according to a retired ambassador who was the deputy undersecretary of the Turkish Foreign Ministry at the time.

The European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) on Sept. 27 dismissed a complaint filed by the PKK's imprisoned leader, Abdullah Öcalan.
