New details on tipoff to MİT on July 15

Daily Yeni Şafak had a headline story on May 20 by Osman Ozgan with the title: "Here is that major's statement," triggering new debates. We knew that a major, identified only as O.K., personally went to the headquarters of the National Intelligence Organization (MİT) in Ankara's Yenimahalle district on the afternoon of July 15, 2016 to warn them about the preparations of the coup.

Journalist Ali Bayramoğlu attacked after voting in Turkey's referendum

Journalist Ali Bayramoğlu was attacked after casting his referendum vote in Istanbul at around 12:50 p.m. on April 16.

Former daily Yeni Şafak columnist Bayramoğlu arrived at the Şair Nedim Elementary School in the Gayrettepe district of Istanbul and was initially subjected to a verbal assault. 

German-Turkish journalist Deniz Yücel marries in jail

Deniz Yücel, a German-Turkish journalist for Die Welt newspaper who has been under arrest since February, has married his fiancée in jail, daily Cumhuriyet has reported.

Main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) lawmaker Şafak Pavey and Yücel's lawyer, Ferat Çağıl, also participated in the wedding ceremony between the journalist and Dilek Mayatürk in Silivri jail.

Yeni Şafak newspaper's photographer loses his life

A photographer of the Yeni Şafak daily newspaper, Mustafa Cambaz, has lost his life after being gun fired by a group of soldiers who have staged an attempted coup, his newspaper has announced. 

The editor-in-chief of the daily, İbrahim Gül wrote July 16 on his Twitter account: 

"Here is the last message of our martyr," and shared Cambaz's tweet which said: 

Security cameras capture assassination of Uzbek dissident in Istanbul

The assassination of an Uzbek dissident in Istanbul's Zeytinburnu district was captured by two security cameras belonging to nearby businesses, daily Yeni Şafak has reported.

Abdullah Bukhari, who was working as a religious leader and head of the İhsan Learning Services and Solidarity Association in Zeytinburnu, was killed in a gun attack on Dec. 11.

Turkish man establishes two imaginary countries, sends 'diplomatic note' to Turkey

A Turkish man has established two fictional countries and sent a "diplomatic note" from one of them to slam authorities in Ankara, Turkish media reported on Dec. 5.

Ahmet Çatalkaya, the leader of the "countries" he founded with his three friends, was caught in his scam after he applied to establish a diplomatic office in Turkey, daily Yeni Şafak reported.
