Serbian Army chief, Russian ambassador praise cooperation
ŠABAC -- Russian Ambassador Aleksandr Chepurin and Serbian Army chief Gen. Ljubisa Diković on Wednesday visited the town of Šabac in western Serbia.
The two officials met with a special team sent by the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations to help flood defense efforts in the country.

BELGRADE -- The flood-hit areas of Obrenovac and Barič near Belgrade, Sremska Mitrovica in the north and Krupanj and Šabac in western Serbia remain the most critical.
The village of Barič has been preventively evacuated, with the flood wave on the Sava River expected to arrive later on Saturday.

Town of Šabac safe, flood victims in Obrenovac
BELGRADE, ŠABAC -- The bodies of those who perished in the flood in Obrenovac are being recovered on Saturday, MUP Emergency Sector chief Predrag Marić has said.
But he told a news conference in Belgrade that authorities would not reveal the number of victims "until flood waters have subsided."

PM in dramatic appeal to "defend town at any cost"
BELGRADE -- Prime Minister Aleksandar Vučić late on Friday described the situation in Serbia, struck by severe flooding, as "catastrophic."
He said the number of victims in Obrenovac was "not small," and warned that the town of Šabac - upstream from Belgrade on the Sava River - "must be defended at any cost."
