Serbia Struggles to Control Flood Disaster
Aleksandar Marsenic, head of emergency situations, on Tuesday said that some 2,000 people had been evacuated overnight from Obrenovac, 30km southwest of Belgrade.
“The evacuation of people in Obrenovac continues,” Marsenic said.

Ljajic: First contracts between Serbian and UAE companies
BELGRADE - Serbian companies have signed their first preliminary contracts with companies from the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Serbia's Trade Minister Rasim Ljajic has said.
Ljajic met on Monday with officials of 20 companies from the UAE, of which some have already opened and others have said that they would open their offices in Serbia.
30,873 people evacuated so far, evacuation continues
BELGRADE - A total of 30,873 people have so far been evacuated from the flood-affected areas in the territory of Serbia, 13, 603 people only from Obrenovac, an outer suburb of Belgrade, the most difficult situation being in Obrenovac, Krupanj, Sremska Raca and Jamena, reads a release by the Serbian Interior Ministry.

Perhaps it was not possible to prevent this disastrous flooding, but there is increasing number of indications that people from Obrenovac could have been evacuated on time.

Ambassadors: Serbia needs aid
BELGRADE - The ambassadors who visited flood-hit Obrenovac near Belgrade, led by chief of the Serbian Foreign Minister Ivica Dacic, on Monday, said they were shocked by what they saw in the town, adding that Serbia will be need solidarity and help from the international community to deal with the consequences of the natural disaster.

First estimates of damages from flooding soon
BELGRADE – Serbia’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure Zorana Mihajlovic said Monday that first estimates show that floods damaged about 4,500 kilometers of roads and the damages to 124 bridges are estimated at about half a billion dinars.

Sava bursts sandbag walls in Obrenovac, evacuation continues
BELGRADE – The River Sava broke through sandbag barriers in Obrenovac near Belgrade and an order was issued for a total evacuation, Serbia’s Emergency Situations Sector chief Predrag Maric said in the afternoon on Monday.
Nikola Tesla power plant still in danger
OBRENOVAC - The possibility of the Sava overflowing is the greatest threat to the power station Nikola Tesla in Obrenovac, where pumps are being used to drain underground water, as the water from the Sava would then merge with the flood water from the Kolubara, Serbia's Minister of Energy Aleksandar Antic said on Monday.
