Palace of Aigai: Not just a residence but a multipurpose venue

The partly restored Palace of Aigai, in northern Greece, was much more than the palace where Philip II of Macedon resided and where his son, Alexander, was proclaimed king in 336 BC before embarking on his now legendary conquests. It was a public place, where up to 8,000 people could gather in the colonnade, says Angeliki Kottaridi, the now retired archaeologist who led the restoration effort.

Türkiye has 551 Blue Flag beaches

The number of Blue Flag beaches in Türkiye has risen to 551, the Culture Ministry has said.

The Blue Flag awards for 2023 have been announced, and 551 beaches, 23 marinas, 14 tourism boats and 10 private yachts have been awarded with a Blue Flag, according to a statement of the ministry.

Rate of tourist arrivals in Antalya limps in May

Foreign tourist arrivals in Antalya slowed in the first half of May, Recep Yavuz from the Antalya City Council Tourism Working Group has said, adding that this was due to fewer visits by Russian holidaymakers.

Antalya saw a record number of foreign tourist arrivals in January, February, March and April this year. However, tourism activity appeared to have lost some momentum in May.

Thessaloniki: Retired teacher arrested for lewd acts on minor

A retired teacher in Thessaloniki is expected to appear before a prosecutor on charges of performing a lewd act on a minor to whom he was giving private lessons.

Police in the Thermi district of the northern city arrested the 72-year-old male after his student, a 14-year-old girl, and her mother filed a complaint.
