The golden sarcophagus of the most famous ancient Egyptian pharaoh Tutankhamun, who lived more than 3.3 thousand years ago, will be restored in Egypt to be exhibited in one of the halls of the new Egyptian Museum near the Pyramids of Giza.

A 3,000-year-old quartzite head of Egyptian "Boy King" Tutankhamun was auctioned off for $6 million July 4 in London despite a fierce outcry from Cairo.

A 3,000-year-old head sculpture of an eternally-young Tutankhamun -- the Egyptian pharaoh known as King Tut -- goes under the hammer this week in London despite an outcry from Cairo.    

The Egyptian embassy in London requested that Britain prevent the planned sale by Christie's of an ancient sculpture representing King Tutankhamun's head and return it to Egypt, Cairo said.

Dr Arlette David, a professor at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and member of Israel's Institute of Archaeology, will deliver a lecture on "Akhenaten's and Nefertiti's Monotheism: What the Images Reveal," at the Iconic Center. The lecture, which will be in English, is organized by the university, together with the Hellenic Institute of Egyptology and the Jewish Museum of Greece.

The legendary treasure of ancient Egypt's boy pharaoh Tutankhamun, some of which is touring the world for the first time, is shrouded in richness and mystery. At least one million people are expected to flock to a "once in a generation" exhibition, titled "Tutankhamun: Treasures of the Golden Pharaoh," which opened in Paris at the weekend.

Four decades after the boy pharaoh caused a sensation in the US and Europe, treasures from the tomb of Tutankhamun are to tour the world again, many for the first time.

Egypt on Saturday unveiled an ancient tomb, sarcophagi and funerary artifacts discovered in the Theban necropolis of Al-Assasif in the southern city of Luxor, reports AFP. 

In a ceremony in front of the temple of Queen Hatshepsut, Antiquities Minister Khaled al-Anani announced that French and Egyptian archaeologists had discovered "a new tomb... with very nice paintings".

A 3,000 year old ancient fortress was discovered by archaeologists near the South Bulgarian town of Zlatograd. The fortification is from the times of Troy and Mycenae and is one of the first evidence that ancient Thrace was part of the Cretan-Mycenaean culture, believed to have been the first civilization in Europe.

An intact tomb from the early Mycenaean era (1650-1400 BC) has been unearthed by archaeologists in the region of Nemea, southern Greece.

According to the Culture Ministry, the tomb is among the largest ever found in the region and is set apart by the short yet wide path leading to its entrance along with other features that place it in the early phase of the Mycenaean civilization.
