The Bulgarian National Bank has issued (17th September) the fifth entry in a series of coins entitled "Medieval Bulgarian Rulers," which has been issued intermittently since 2011. The latest coin features the Bulgarian ruler Ivan Asen II (circa. 1193-1241) who became emperor of the Bulgarian lands in 1218 and ruled until his own death in 1241.

International Opera and Ballet Festival in Ephesus
The First International Efes Opera and Ballet Festival will be held from Sept. 7 to Sept. 18 at the Efes Ancient Theater. The festival will open with the ballet 'Zorba the Greek' and will also present the Gala Concert, the opera 'Tosca' and the ballet 'Carmina Burana.'

Yugoslav Author's Nobel Prize Exhibit Opens in Montenegro
Ivo Andric's 1961 Nobel Prize medal is part of an exhibition opening on Friday in the Montenegrin coastal town of Herceg Novi, in the house where the only Yugoslav winner of the prize lived for years.
Migrants move into Radovan Karadzic's apartment
These reports quote neighbors who said the migrants broke into one of the apartments on the ground floor of a building where Karadzic's wife has her apartment, and then into another, where the family lived until the spring of 1992.
The neighbors claim they saw the migrants break into "one of the apartments" and stayed there.

Cathedral of Ani to be restored in Turkey's Kars
The Cathedral of Ani is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and was converted into a mosque after the conquest of Ani by the Seljuk Sultan Alparslan in 1604. Restorations will begin this month for the cathedral, which is among 23 artifacts that have survived in the ancient ruins.
