Anže Logar, the former foreign minister, who has ranked as the most popular politician since he unsuccessfully challenged Nataša Pirc Musar in the 2022 presidential election, has started a new platform to discuss Slovenia's key challenges. Some speculate the forum might develop into a new party.

The cyberattack on Slovenia's Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of which the public was officially informed on 7 April had been in progress at least since March 2022 when the previous government was still in office, new media reports have revealed. China is believed to have been behind the attack.

Ljubljana, 23 October – Partial results after nearly 60% of votes counted put former Democrats (SDS) foreign minister Anže Logar and lawyer Nataša Pirc Musar in the second round of the presidential election. The former netted some 34% and the latter 27%.

Ljubljana – The National Assembly rejected the opposition-sponsored changes to the parental protection and family benefits act with which the Democrats (SDS) wanted to introduce a universal child benefit that would not be means tested. The government thinks this would deepen social inequalities.

Ljubljana – MEP Milan Brglez (S&D/SD) has expressed the willingness to run for president, the junior coalition Social Democrats (SD) told the STA on Wednesday, expressing the wish that he be supported by the entire coalition. The SD presidency is expected to formally nominate him tomorrow afternoon.

Ljubljana – The senior coalition Freedom Movement approved with more than 90% of votes mergers with the non-parliamentary parties the Marjan Šarec List (LMŠ) and the Alenka Bratušek Party (SAB) in an online congress on Monday.

Ljubljana – The National Assembly rejected in a 52:23 vote on Tuesday the opposition Democrats'(SDS) proposal to consult voters in a referendum whether the government should restructure its departments and expand them or not.

Ljubljana – The two conservative parties that moved to opposition after the 24 April general election have promised not to abuse parliamentary tools at their disposal, but will use them when necessary, also to fight against the coalition’s “misconceptions”.

Ljubljana – The new centre-left coalition expects the political situation to de-escalate now that the new parliament has started its work, and the level of the debate to be raised. Coalition deputy groups note the importance of cooperation in tackling challenges and stress they are well prepared and will work together to implement their plans.

Ljubljana – Opposition SDS MP Branko Grims has accused the Robert Golob government of trampling on the constitution as soon as it came to power; he cited its demand to compile lists of staff that were hired during the previous two governments and the interior minister’s withdrawal of consent for the suits regarding anti-government rallies.
