Free Public Transport for Children Under 14: New Card System Launches February 1

Starting February 1, 2024, children under 14 years old will enjoy free public transport via a new electronic card system. Previously available for ages 7 to 10, the updated initiative grants free travel to a wider age group, requiring replacement of existing cards by February 1. Parents can extend current cards until then at a cost of BGN 15 for January.

Insurance regulatory agency calls for measures to aid disabled

The Insurance and Private Pensions Regulation and Supervision Agency (SEDDK) has taken a step towards enhancing accessibility for persons with disabilities in the realm of insurance and pension services.

The regulatory body has requested that companies adopt the use of embossed Braille alphabet and sign language translation to better cater to this demographic.

SI4CARE project sheds light on ageing in remote areas

The first international conference on active and healthy ageing was held in Ljubljana this week, addressing the subject of accessibility of healthcare in remote areas of the Adriatic-Ionian region and development of telemedicine through the lens of the international project SI4CARE. Participating countries signed an agreement for healthy ageing.

Digital card gives disabled free access to museums, sites

With a simple scan of their Digital Disability Card, disabled people can now have immediate and free access to the archaeological sites and museums that are under the jurisdiction of the Culture Ministry, without the need for a ticket. Their companions will also be enabled free access in the same way, where this is provided for.

More beaches becoming wheelchair-friendly

A project is under way to make a total of 287 beaches across Greece fully accessible to people with mobility problems, including by installing the Greek-designed Seatrac system for wheelchairs and other essential facilities like parking, bathroom/changing facilities, ramps and corridors to sun loungers and refreshment bars etc.
