As talks floated for end-January, Turkish FM chides EU over Greek support
Turkey is committed to reforms and hopes to restart stalled negotiations that will pave the way for its accession to the European Union, Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said on Tuesday, while also chiding Brussels for "favoring" Athens in a dispute over Eastern Mediterranean energy rights.

Turkish officials stress need to update customs union
The landmark free trade agreement signed between Turkey and the U.K. has shown that the European Union Customs Union falls behind on many fronts, a top Turkish official said on Jan. 6.
The deal between Ankara and London signed last week could be a model for updating the customs union, said Nail Olpak, the head of Turkey's Foreign Economic Relations Board, at a virtual meeting.
Top Turkish diplomat to visit EU term president Portugal
Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu will pay an official visit to Portugal on Jan. 7 and will discuss with his Portuguese counterpart bilateral relations as well as Turkish ties with the EU, whose rotating presidency Portugal currently holds.
EU extends support for refugees in Turkey to early 2022
The EU on Dec. 23 announced that humanitarian support for refugees in Turkey will be extended until early 2022.
"These programs help over 1.8 million refugees meet their basic needs and will help over 700,000 children to continue their education," said a European Commission statement.
Turkish, German leaders hold video talk
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and German Chancellor Angela Merkel in a video conference on Dec. 19 discussed bilateral ties and Turkey-EU relations.
"Turkey wants to open a new page in relations with the EU," Erdoğan said, according to a statement from Turkey's Communications Directorate.

EU finishes contracting $7.3 bln refugee deal with Turkey
The EU on Dec. 17 announced the finalizing contracting process of €6 billion ($7.3 billion) in aid for refugees hosted by Turkey, focused on the 4 million Syrian refugees who since 2011 fled the war in their home country for safe shelter in Turkey.
