Giannis Antetokounmpo will not play for Greece at the Basketball World Cup that starts later this month, with the Milwaukee Bucks star saying Friday he and his medical advisers decided that he's simply not ready to compete.

Antetokounmpo had surgery on his left knee earlier this summer.

Forward Thanasis Antetokounmpo, the older brother of two-time MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo, is staying with the Milwaukee Bucks.

The Bucks announced Friday they have re-signed Antetokounmpo, who will be playing alongside his brother in Milwaukee for a fifth season.

The Greek government has promised a donation to a school in Ghana for the construction of a basketball court.

The donation, which was not disclosed, was announced by Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias during a visit to the St Nicholas' Greek School in Tema, on the Atlantic coast.

The school relies solely on private donations and volunteers.

Giannis Antetokounmpo said he appreciated the love the city of Milwaukee has shown him ever since his arrival as an 18-year-old rookie from Greece.

So the reigning two-time MVP decided to show his loyalty to the place where he's spent his entire NBA career.
