Fire aftermath-Authorities on high alert (pics)
Greek authorities are on high alert due to high winds blowing Saturday across the country. In the prefecture of Laconia in the Peloponnese, firefighters have managed to contain most of the fire front but are still operating to extinguish smaller spots around the region. 130 firefighters and 51 vehicles started their operations at the break of dawn.

GNO sacrifices Carmen to the Greek crisis
The Athens Festival has called off a Carmen production due to open in the last week of July. A website announcement says:
The Greek National Opera, due to the current situation, announces the postponement of the production of “Carmen” which was scheduled to be performed for the 26,28,30,31 July at the Odeon of Herodes Atticus.

Mini riot again near Athens polytechnic

Free public transport for everyone!
Greek Transport Minister Christos Spirtzis said on Monday that means of transport in Athens will be free from June 29 to July 6.
The decision will be announced later on Monday to facilitate citizens and will concern the metro, buses, trains and the electric trains but not the suburban train.

Burnt recycling plant to undergo environmental tests
Energy Minister Panayiotis Lafazanis has instructed the Greek Institute of Geology and Mineral Exploration (IGME) to carry out a series of tests at the recycling center in Aspropyrgos, west of Athens, which was recently destroyed by a fire.
