Greece faces another hefty fine, this time over sewage
After being slapped with an 11.4-million-euro fine in May for failing to shut down dozens of illegal landfills, Greece may face an additional penalty of at least 14.5 million euros on Tuesday if the European Court of Justice upholds a European Commission recommendation over the country?s poor sewage management record.
Groups of irregular migrants clash with each other on Lesvos
Tensions between one group of foreign nationals, identified as asylum-seeking Syrians, and a group claiming to be from Afghanistan, erupted into a mini riot on Monday on the eastern Aegean island of Lesvos.
Blaze at recycling plant put out as experts say pollution is within acceptable levels
Firefighters were able on Friday to fully extinguish a blaze at a closed recycling plant in Aspropyrgos, southwest of Athens, which had been belching malodorous smoke into Athens?s atmosphere since last Saturday.
According to the Attica Regional Authority, only a few parts of the plant, which was completely destroyed in the fire, are still smoldering.
EasyJet flies Greek woman to the wrong country
An 84-year-old woman was flown from Manchester to Malta despite her holding an EasyJet boarding pass for Athens, Greece. The airline and airport in England said that the woman, Argyro Aretaki and her family have been compensated after the incident where she was flown to Malta but her luggage went to Athens.

Aspropyrgos chokes Athens capital with toxic smoke (photos)
The Greek Health Ministry advised the city of Aspropyrgos, west Attica, to close down following a blaze at a recycling facility broke out on Saturday. Kindergartens and schools on Wednesday shut down due to air pollution from the plant as well as dangerous toxic fumes released by the fire on its fifth day ablaze.
Migrants crossing Mediterranean exceed 100,000 this year

More than 100,000 migrants - many fleeing the war in Syria - have crossed the Mediterranean Sea to Europe so far this year, the UN refugee agency said Tuesday - and the arrivals in Greece have reached their highest level since the crisis began.

An Athens prosecutor on Tuesday ordered an emergency probe into the causes of a fire at a recycling plant in Aspropyrgos, southwest of Athens, which covered the Greek capital and the port city of Piraeus in noxious fumes from melting plastic and other packaging material for the fourth day on Tuesday.
