University entrance exams begin - 70,000 places up for grabs

University entrance exams begin on Monday for more than 100,000 senior high school students in Greece.

A total of 103,366 pupils will be sitting the exams over the next few weeks to gain a place at one of the state-run universities or technical colleges (TEI).

Almost 70,000 places in tertiary education are available this year.

Turkey marks Children's Day, improvements needed

Children's rights in Turkey have not been improving over the years, with many continuing to lack education, a new report has said amid the marking of Universal Children's Day on Nov. 20.  

Nov. 20 has been celebrated as Universal Children's Day since the adoption of the Convention on the Rights of the Child in 1989, which was signed by Turkey in 1990 and enacted in 1995.

People born in summer are taller than those born in winter

A study by Cambridge University found that babies born in the summer months are stronger and taller than their counterparts. The research, conducted on 450,000 Britons, found that pregnant mothers who absorb more health-boosting Vitamin D from sunshine in their second and third trimesters give their babies a head-start in life.

Free extra tuition: 5,000 scholarships to high school students

5,000 scholarships are being offered to students in the first and second year of senior high school. Extra tutoring will be offered to the students after they sit through tests at 11.30 p.m. on Wednesday, September 2, 2015, for the first year of senior high school and Thursday, September 3 for the second year. Repeat tests will be offered on September 9 and 10.

High school entrance exam results for non-Muslim students recalculated: Education Ministry

The high school entrance exam results of 519 non-Muslim students, who were exempt from questions on the Islamic faith, were re-calculated upon notices issued about erroneous calculations, Turkey's Education Ministry said in a written statement late June 30.
