Temperatures will reach up to 21 degrees Celsius on Tuesday, with the unseasonal warm spell forecast to run until Friday, the Meteo weather service has said.

Authorities in Karystos on Evia island have launched an investigation after the discovery of human remains on Psili Ammos beach. 

The remains, two human bones, were spotted on Tuesday by a passerby who immediately notified the local police department. 

Police and coast guard units rushed to the scene and cordoned off the area.

The intention of Public Power Corporation to withdraw a total of 41 power generation units from Crete, the Cyclades and the non-interconnected islands from end-2023 up until 2028 sounded the alarm at the Ministry of Environment and Energy and the competent authorities.

Streets flooded in Chania, Crete after storm Elias caused heavy rain on Wednesday. 

The sudden storm broke out shortly after 3 p.m. turning several streets into torrents covering sidewalks, as reported neakriti.gr.

Shops also flooded in the city's old town. 

Passenger shipping traffic in July and the first three weeks of August rose 10% compared to the same period in 2022.

Last year, traffic had already recovered to pre-pandemic levels, rising 36% from 2021; this year, it is expected to hit an all-time record of probably over 18 million passengers, compared to 17.5 million last year.

Restoring the long-neglected National Theater of Rhodes is one of the top priorities in the capital of the southeastern Aegean island. The agreement for the project was signed recently by the South Aegean Regional Authority and the Municipality of Rhodes, with construction set to begin soon.

Omer Celik, the spokesperson for Turkey's ruling AK Party, has reiterated Ankara's demand for Greece to demilitarize its eastern Aegean islands. He issued a bellicose warning, stating that there would be consequences if Greece fails to comply.

Problems in the supply of electricity on non-interconnected islands have been considerable this summer after similar issues last year too.

The old production units are failing one after the other due to faults, while in many cases there are no spare parts - due to their age.

Constructed in the 17th century, the Jesuit Palace (aka the Jesuit Monastery of Kalamitsia) is in the region of Kalamitsia on Naxos. In the 18th century, the monastery came under Catholic orders and since then it has been owned by the Naxos Catholic Foundation. It is listed as a historical monument.
