Ministry begins demolishing unlicensed constructions
The Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change Ministry has started to demolish some 300 unlicensed constructions in the world-famous Göcek region in the southwestern province of Muğla.
Göcek, famous for its turquoise waters, is a popular destination for yacht tourism.
Ewan wins opening stage of Tour of Turkey

57th Tour of Turkey kicks off
The 57th Tour of Turkey will start on April 10 from the Aegean tourism hub Bodrum and end on April 17 in the country's largest metropolis, Istanbul, with 175 cyclists of 25 teams from 14 countries participating, the head of the Turkish Cycling Federation (TBF) has said.
The Çanakkale 1915 bridge, inaugurated on March 18, will be part of the total route of 1,308 kilometers this year.

Ancient inscriptions found in Datça
Four inscriptions made of marble and limestone from the Umayyad period have been unearthed during the archaeological excavations in the ancient city of Knidos in the western province of Muğla's Datça district.

Some 11 provinces warned of heavy precipitation, floods
The Turkish State Meteorological Service has warned 11 out of all 81 provinces of heavy precipitation and floods.
Starting from Feb. 23, the northwestern provinces of Edirne, Kırklareli and Tekirdağ, the southern provinces of Antalya, Hatay, Osmaniye, Isparta and Burdur and the Aegean provinces of İzmir, Aydın and Muğla will witness downpours until the weekend.
Foreign visitors more than doubled last month
Foreign tourist arrivals in Turkey more than doubled in January compared to the same month of 2021, reaching almost 1.3 million, according to official data announced on Feb. 21.
The number of foreigners visiting the country was 1.28 million in January, which jumped 151 percent from the same month in 2021, according to the Culture and Tourism Ministry data.

Project initiated to prevent marine pollution on Aegean shores
Within the scope of a project, steps are being taken to prevent marine pollution that emerged on the shores of the Aegean resort town of Marmaris as a result of erosion caused by rains following last year's catastrophic forest fires.
Over 50 migrants pushed back in Aegean rescued
Turkish Coast Guard units rescued 52 migrants off the coast of İzmir province after they were pushed back by Greek authorities.
The Coast Guard Command said on Feb. 15 in a statement they learned that there was a group of migrants in life rafts off Dikili, Seferihisar, Foça and Çeşme districts and dispatched units to the areas.

Country’s west hit by downpours
A wave of cold weather from the Balkans entered the country from the west late on Feb. 1, causing heavy precipitation in many provinces on Feb. 2.
Many roads in the southwestern province of Muğla's world-famous tourism hotspot Bodrum flooded, and the residents of the northwestern provinces of Tekirdağ, Kırklareli and Edirne had to manage heavy traffic due to the downpours.
