Adoptions in Greece on the rise
There were 393 registered adoptions in 2017, marking a 77.8 percent rise compared to 2016, when there were 221, according to Greek statistics agency ELSTAT.
The largest increase was recorded in the area including the Aegean islands and Crete, with a 93.8 percent rise.

November starts with unseasonably good weather
People enjoy the sunshine next to the sea in Thessaloniki on Wednesday. The unseasonably good weather is forecast to continue Thursday, with temperatures set to reach 27 degrees Celsius (80.6 Fahrenheit) in Athens, the first day of November, and 26 C (78.8 F) in Thessaloniki. Temperatures are set to dip slightly over the coming days, reaching 23 C (73.4 F) on Saturday.

Turkish Coast Guard rescues 30 migrants in Aegean Sea
At least 17 irregular migrants have been rescued in the Aegean Sea off Turkey's southwestern coast, said security sources on Oct .27.
Animal hospital ordered to shut
The Environment Ministry has ordered the closure of the Greek Wildlife Hospital on the Saronic island of Aegina, known by its acronym EKPAZ, following a series of inspections that established that the conditions in which the facility kept animals were "tragic."
