Bulgaria to Launch New Fighter Jet Acquisition Process by End-June

Bulgaria will kickstart an acquisition process for a new multipurpose combat aircraft by the end of next month, Defence Minister Nikolay Nenchev has said.

The Defence Ministry will submit the respective proposal to the government by 30 June, BGNES news outlet quoted Nenchev as saying on Thursday following a meeting of the parliament's defence committee.

Turkish aircraft technician dies after his head caught between flaps

A Turkish aircraft maintenance technician has died in an accident at an Istanbul airport when his head was caught between the flaps of a Boeing 777-300ER.

"Our authorized technician Tu?rul Tuna Beken has lost his life this morning due to a sad accident during the tests on the flight control surfaces [of the aircraft]," the Turkish Airlines (THY) said in a statement on May 16.

Ryanair Plane Damaged by 'Big Bird' in Bulgaria's Plovdiv

A Ryanair plane was struck by a bird while landing at Plovdiv Airport at about 21:00 on Wednesday evening, local news sources say.

The bird seems to have caused engine trouble to the Boeing aircraft, and it took repair workers a few hours to fix it, daily Trud reports.

The aircraft managed to take off at 01.35 EEST on Thursday morning.

Turkish Airlines to launch direct flights to Miami

Turkish Airlines (THY), Turkey's national flag-carrier, will begin direct flights to Miami on Oct. 25, the company announced on May 13.

The move makes Miami the company's 12th destination in the Americas, on top of existing services to Buenos Aires, Sao Paulo, Toronto, Chicago, Houston, Los Angeles, New York, Washington, Boston, Montreal and San Francisco.

Transport Minister Rus: Negotiations underway with EcoMin over Romaero takeover

In its strategy for the TAROM national air carrier, the Transport Ministry aims either to turn private some of the airline or enter cooperation with a big company, Transport Minister Ioan Rus told the Romanian Senate's Transport Committee on Tuesday, adding that negotiations are underway with the Economy Ministry to take over the Romaero air services provider.
