Red Cross aid plane to Yemen held back by 'logistics problems'

The Red Cross said April 6 that an aid plane is ready to leave for Yemen but its departure has been held back by logistics problems inside the war-torn country.
      
"We have a cargo plane with medical supplies which is ready to go," Sitara Jabeen, a spokeswoman for the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) told AFP.
      

UNHCR Urges Bulgaria to Investigate Refugee Deaths at Border with Turkey

UNHCR expressed on Tuesday its concern on the prevention of refugees from entering the EU and called on Bulgaria to investigate the deaths of two Iraqis at the border with Turkey.

This was announced by William Spindler, a spokesman for the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) at a news briefing on Tuesday.

Bulgaria to Grant 10 000 People with Refugee Status by End of Year

The chairperson of the State Agency for Refugees (DAB) Nikola Kazakov stated on Saturday that Bulgaria should grant over 10 000 people with refugee status by the end of the year.

Kazakov said that most of the refugees in Bulgaria were Kurds from Syria and Iraq and nearly half of the newcomers in 2015 were illiterate.

Since the Syrian civil war erupted four years ago, tens of thousands of refugees have poured into the southern Turkish port town of Mersin, fearing they may never return home and yearning for a better life.
     
Between 200,000-350,000 Syrian refugees are now estimated to live in the workaday Mediterranean city, swelling its population of around one million by about a quarter.
