Seismic Shockwaves: Bulgaria's Devin and Southwest Greece Hit by Earthquakes

A pair of powerful earthquakes, registering magnitudes of 5.2 and 5.7, have struck Southwest Greece, sending tremors through the region and triggering concerns over potential damage. The seismic activity, reported by the Euro-Mediterranean Seismological Center, rattled residents and raised alarm bells across affected areas.

Atalanti quake not related to large active fault

Despite assurances that a 4.8-Richter earthquake that jolted Atalanti in eastern Fthiotida on Thursday afternoon was not related to the Atalanti Fault - a large active fault segment in the Gulf of Evia - residents of the town remained uneasy, with many leaving their homes, and some of them even heading to the beach fearing the possibility of powerful aftershocks.

Evia quake not a concern, expert says

A 4.5-magnitude earthquake that struck the island of Evia at 11.38 a.m. on Saturday should not be a cause of concern, according to the president of the Organization of Antiseismic Planning and Protection (OASP), Efthymios Lekkas.

"It is a continuation of the earthquakes from this fault in Evia last November and December," he said.

Magnitude 5.9 earthquake strikes off the coast of Rhodes

A strong temblor rocked the southeast Aegean island of Rhodes on Wednesday. No damage was initially reported. 

According to the revised assessment of the Geodynamic Institute, it was a magnitude 5.9 temblor and occurred at 2.37 p.m. with an epicenter in the sea, 58 kilometers southeast of Lindos, at a depth of 22 km. The initial estimate was 5.7 Richter.

Two Earthquakes were Registered this Morning in Bulgaria

Two earthquakes were registered this morning in Bulgaria, the seismologist on duty Petar Kirilov told bTV

The first was in Haskovo - 2.4 on the Richter scale, at 4:25 AM

The second had a magnitude of 2.9 on the Richter scale and was detected in Sofia - Gorna Banya district at 4:42 AM

Both earthquakes are weak to have aftershocks, Kirilov said
