Commission ready to help Greece with migrant arrival spike, if requested

The European Commission stands ready to support Greece operationally through its agencies, such as the European Asylum Office (EASO), Europol and the European border and coast guard, if the country submits a relevant request, EU Commission spokesperson Natasha Bertaud said on Monday.

Amid a spike in undocumented migration over the Greek-Turkish land border, a 22-year-old man faced a prosecutor in Thessaloniki over the weekend on charges of attempting to smuggle eight undocumented migrants into the country, two of them in the trunk of his car.

Teams of the European Border and Coast Guard Agency, or Frontex, are joining Albania's police to patrol its land and sea borders for migrants and crime.

Bulgaria is Applying for the Seat of the European Labor Authority

The government has approved the intention to nominate the Republic of Bulgaria as the seat of the European Labor Authority, the government's press service announced.

The discussions on the creation of the new structure began in March 2018 during the Bulgarian European Presidency.
