Pristina Basic Court on Tuesday cleared ex-premier Agim Ceku and 11 co-defendants, including another ex-minister and several ex-MPs, of abusing their official positions to add people to a government-approved list of Kosovo Liberation Army, KLA war veterans eligible for benefits.

LDK leader and prime minister of Kosovo Isa Mustafa announced that  Avdullah Hoti would stand as the party's candidate to head up the  future government following a meeting with the LDK presidency on Tuesday.

Police spokesperson Ivo Kotevski said that officers were “closely monitoring social networks” ahead of the possible unauthorised protests on Friday and warned that “violent outbursts cannot be tolerated”.

Police established a high-profile presence in the city centre on Friday ahead of the demonstration, which is being seen by the authorities as high-risk and a potential flashpoint for violent confrontation.
