Waldwerke – late war Luftwaffe fighter production in ‘forest factory’ complexes

The field of German late war production is a fascinating aspect of Luftwaffe history – from underground facilities such as mines or tunnels to so-called “Waldwerke” – literally ‘forest factories’. Examples of these were the KUNO I Waldwerk set up to turn out Me 262 jet fighters or the Cham-Michelsdorf site in northern Bavaria which produced the latest Bf 109 K fighters.

In August 1956, a drone went rogue over Southern California, threatening cities, including Los Angeles. In its aftermath, over 1,000 acres were destroyed, forests and scrubland were set ablaze while homes and property were damaged. But it wasn’t because of the drone.

Serbia Ramping Up Defense Production

Caretaker Government Places Gripen Jets Offer First

At a meeting on Wednesday, the caretaker government adopted the conclusions of the special committee set up for the acquiring of a new type of fighter jets, BNR reported.

The committee has placed Sweden's SAAB Gripen jets offer at first place, it was reported. The Swedish bid was preferred over offers for used F-16 planes and used Eurofighter jets.

Sole survivor of helicopter crash says aircraft got tangled in power lines

The sole survivor of a military helicopter crash that killed four army officers has said that the aircraft got tangled in power lines before going down.

The UH-1H helicopter crashed on Wednesday near the village of Sarantaporo in Elassona, central Greece, during a routine patrol flight.

How the Soviets Stole an American F-86 Sabre Jet in 1951

During the Korean War (1950 to 1953) America and her allies sided with South Korea, while Russia and China sided with North Korea. Among their many weapons, the US had the North American F-86 Sabre (also called the Sabrejet), while North Korea used the Russian MIG-15. Both sides were therefore curious to know about the other’s planes. Which is why, the Soviets decided to steal a Sabre.

4 dead + 1 injured in Greek army helicopter crash in northwestern Greece (photos-video)

UPD: Four people have died and one is seriously injured in the UH-1H Greek army helicopter crash in the area of Sarantaporos-Elessona. Sargeant major Vasiliki Plejida was found seriously injured by rescue teams and is being transported to the 424 Military hospital of Thessaloniki for treatement.
