Microsoft and global consulting firm McKinsey are competing to recruit a young, visually impaired Turkish woman, Fulya Akkaya, who ranked first in the university entrance exam five years ago.
Reckless mistake kills e-scooter driver in Istanbul
A 40-year-old woman has died in a road accident when a public bus hit her as she rode an electric scooter in Istanbul's Ümraniye district.
İlknur Akkaya, who was driving an e-scooter on Oct. 25, was thrown onto a busy road when the door of a car she passed by suddenly opened.
The woman abruptly fell in front of a public bus that was moving on the side lane.
Turkey's Supreme Election Council elects new head
Muharrem Akkaya took over as president of Turkey's Supreme Election Council (YSK).
His predecessor Sadi Given retired after serving the YSK for seven years.
Akkaya received eight out of 11 votes of the board in a secret ballot.
He will serve his term until January 2023.

Visually impaired girl ranks first in five sections of Turkey's national university entrance exam
A visually impaired high school senior in the Central Anatolian province of Konya ranked in first place in five scores of Turkey's undergraduate placement examination.
Fulya Akkaya received the highest score in the TM (Turkish-Math)-1, TM-2, TM-3, TS (Turkish-Social Sciences)-1 and TS-2 categories on the exam, for which the second and last round results were revealed on July 12.
Flying Broom Festival presents awards
The 18th Flying Broom Women's Films Festival ended on May 18 with Israeli film "Gett: The Trial of Viviane Amsalem" winning the International Federation of Film Critics (FIPRESCI) award, while actress Begüm Akkaya was presented with the festival's Young Witch Award this year.

Islamist newspaper 'proud' of not knowing The Beatles
A columnist of an Islamist newspaper in Turkey, which recently confused The Beatles with Turkish high school students after misunderstanding a protest poster, has said the daily is proud of its ignorance about the British music legends.

A ?hat? calligraphy art exhibition has been opened at the Hünkar Mansion in Istanbul?s New Mosque, which was built in 1665.
Calligrapher Bilal Akkaya, who hybridized classic and modern forms of ?hat,? said the title of the ongoing exhibition, ?Lord of Roses,? refers to Prophet Muhammad during the week to celebrate his birthday.
