Many western countries voiced swift disapproval after an Egyptian court on Aug. 29 handed down three-year prison sentences to three Al-Jazeera reporters whom they have long demanded be released.

An Egyptian court sentenced three Al-Jazeera TV journalists to three years in prison on Aug.29 for operating without a press license and broadcasting material harmful to Egypt, a case that has stirred an international outcry. 

An Egyptian court postponed on July 30 its verdict in the retrial of three Al-Jazeera journalists accused of supporting the banned Muslim Brotherhood, in a case that has sparked a global outcry.

Qatari media group beIN has completed the takeover of Turkish satellite network and pay-tv provider Digitürk, a statement from the company said late on July 13, while Qatari Emir Tammim bin Hamad al-Thani met and conferred with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdo?an behind closed doors in Istanbul. 

An affiliate of Qatari-based television network Al Jazeera has acquired Turkish pay-tv platform and satellite network Digitürk, a statement from the companies said late on July 13.

Al Jazeera TV journalist Ahmed Mansour, who was released June 22 after being arrested in Germany, has thanked Turkey?s president and prime minister for their support during his detention in Berlin.

Germany released on June 22 Al-Jazeera correspondent Ahmed Mansour who was arrested on the weekend at the request of his native Egypt, the Doha-based channel said.

The German government on June 22 played down the chances of a prominent Al Jazeera journalist held in Berlin since the weekend being extradited to Egypt, citing concerns about the Egyptian legal process.

Al Jazeera journalist Ahmed Mansour said he was arrested June 20 at a Berlin airport, after Germany acted on an international arrest warrant issued by his native country Egypt.

The leader of the Al-Qaeda offshoot of al-Nusra in Syria spoke to Al Jazeera and stated clearly that he sees no end to the clash between his organization and ISIS. “There is no solution. We hope that they repent before God and come to their senses. If not, there is nothing left for us but to fight them”, he stated.
