Turkish forces offered truce monitoring mission in Idlib: Turkish deputy PM
Turkey was offered the opportunity to establish a cease-fire observation mission in the opposition-held Syrian province of Idlib during a meeting last month in Astana in which Ankara, Moscow and Tehran agreed to declare de-conflict zones in regions controlled by the opposition groups, Deputy Prime Minister Veysi Kaynak told the Hürriyet Daily News on May 12.
Russia, Iran, Turkey set up Syria de-escalation zones for at least six months: Memorandum
Russia, Turkey and Iran agreed in a memorandum signed on May 4 to establish four separate de-escalation zones in Syria for at least six months, according to a text detailing the agreement published by the Russian foreign ministry on May 6.The largest de-escalation zone includes Idlib province and adjoining districts of Hama, Aleppo and Latakia provinces.
169 killed in rebel infighting near Damascus, says monitor
A week of infighting killed nearly 169 people in the rebel-held Eastern Ghouta region outside Syria's capital Damascus before calm returned on May 5, a monitor said.
The clashes erupted on April 28 between the powerful Army of Islam faction and the former al-Qaeda affiliate Fateh al-Sham Front, along with ally Faylaq al-Rahman.
