Syria digs up ‘rare’ Roman mosaic in former rebel stronghold

Syria uncovered a large intact mosaic that dates back to the Roman era, describing it on Oct. 12 as the most important archaeological discovery since the country's conflict began 11 years ago.

Journalists were shown the mosaic in the central town of Rastan near Homs, Syria's third largest city.

Car bomb kills seven near Syria Shiite shrine, says state TV

A car bomb killed at least seven people near the revered Shiite shrine of Sayyida Zeinab, south of the Syrian capital Damascus, on April 25, state television reported.

The bomb struck Al-Diyabiyah, a town that serves as one of the gateways for the many pilgrims from around the world who visit the Shiite holy site.

Russian airstrikes hit Syrian Turkmen, Syrian Turkmen Council head Abdurrahman Mustafa has said.

Mustafa stated that Russia hit the Free Syrian Army rather than the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL). 

They have hit Türkmenda??, Humus and Hama, areas where many Turkmen live, he said, after contacting the regions via telephone on Sept. 30. 

Russia, US to Hold Talks on Coordinating Airstrikes in Syria

Russia and the US will hold talks "as soon as possible" in order to avoid clashing in Syria after Moscow launched airstrikes against Islamic State (IS) targets on Wednesday.

This became clear after a meeting between Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and US State Secretary John Kerry.
