Over 1 mln Turks flock to touristic destinations during long public holiday

Nearly 1 million Turkish people went on holiday during a 10-day public holiday, which started late on Aug. 25 and ended on Sept. 3, creating more than 1 billion Turkish Liras ($292 million) of tourism revenue, according to tourism players. 

Hotel occupancy rates hit 100 percent in many tourism resorts. 

Russian tourist drowns in Turkish resort Alanya

A Russian tourist drowned in the sea off the Alanya district of the Mediterranean resort of Antalya on Aug. 27, Doğan News Agency has reported.

The 68-year-old tourist, identified as Nikolay Kudinov, reportedly went swimming off the coast in the Kızlarpınar neighborhood in the early hours of the morning but after swimming for a while locals observed him struggling in the sea.

Turkey's Köprülü Canyon set to welcome 700,000 tourists for rafting

Turkey's Köprülü Canyon, one of the world's easiest rafting tracks, is set to welcome nearly 700,000 tourists this year, according to tour organizers in the region. 

The canyon in the Beşkopnak neighborhood of the Mediterranean province of Antalya's Manavgat district is located on a 36,600-hectare area with over 100-meter-high walls and 14-kilometers-long streamline.

75-year-old German tourist found dead in hotel room in Turkey's Alanya

A 75-year-old German tourist was found dead in the hotel room where he was holidaying in the Alanya resort town of the Mediterranean province of Antalya on May 28, Doğan News Agency has reported.

Manfred Kallen had checked into the hotel in the Mahmutlar neighborhood 15 days ago.

German tourist dies after falling from hotel balcony in Turkey's Antalya

A German tourist died on May 25 after falling from the balcony of a hotel where he was holidaying in the Mediterranean resort of Alanya, state-run Anadolu Agency has reported.

Harald Stockinger, 47, fell from the balcony of his hotel room on the 5th floor in the Mahmutlar neighborhood of Alanya due to an unknown reason.

Russian tourist dies in car accident in Turkish resort of Alanya

A Russian tourist died in a car accident in the southeastern resort of Alanya late on May 23, Doğan News Agency has reported.

Marina Demidova, 34, was trying to cross the road in the Avsallar neighborhood of Alanya. 

A car, whose driver was identified only as Mehmet K., hit Demidova before fleeing the scene after the accident.

Antalya's tourist arrivals soar in April with skyrocketing rise in Russian tourists

The number of tourists visiting the Mediterranean resort of Antalya saw a sharp rise in April with a 40 percent increase since the same month in 2016. 

The arrivals from Russia soared 15.5 times during the period, data from the Antalya Governor's Office showed, Doğan News Agency reported on May 2. 

Turkey to extend length of visa-free stay for Russians

Turkey will increase the duration of visa-free stay for Russian citizens, Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu said April 23.      

"We are extending the visa-free period for Russians in Turkey from 60 to 90 days," Çavuşoğlu told reporters in the Alanya district of the southern province of Antalya.
