BELGRADE - Serbian President Tomislav Nikolic said Tuesday that the major change in state functioning is the greatest achievement of the government in 2014.

For the first time in Serbia, state finances and budget are being managed in a different way, without incurring debts to preserve social peace and stay in power, Nikolic said in an interview to Tanjug.

Serbian Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic said recently imposed austerity measures were controversial but necessary and their positive results would be seen in the years to come.

PM wants "people who think differently" in cabinet

BELGRADE -- The current government has a historic opportunity to "create a modern country out of Serbia," Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic has said.

He told the state broadcaster RTS late on Monday that was satisfied with his associates, but "expected the team to be extended with people who think differently."
