Writer Georgi Gospodinov has won one of the biggest European awards for literature - "Angelus". At a ceremony last night in Wroclaw, his novel "The Physics of Sadness" was announced as the best Polish language book for 2019.

Karatsi ("Losers") of Ivaylo Hristov is among the 85 movies vying in the Foreign Language Film contest of the 89th Academy Awards.
The Bulgarian title was awarded the Golden George prize at the Moscow International Film Festival (MIFF) last year. It tells the story of a secondary school student and his life as a loser in a small Bulgarian town.

Svetlana Alexievich wins Nobel prize in literature
Belarusian journalist and writer Svetlana Alexievich has been awarded the 2015 Nobel prize in literature.
Swedish Academy stated that her work was a “monument to suffering and courage in our time”.
Alexievich was born on the 31 May 1948 in the Ukrainian town Ivano-Frankovsk. Her father is Belarusian and her mother is Ukrainian.
