The murder of businessman Alexandros Stamatiadis by armed robbers in April last year in his home in Kifissia in front of his wife while his children were sleeping also had a symbolic aspect to it, regarding the state's responsibilities to its citizens.

Estonia's Glasperlenspiel Sinfonietta marks the Baltic nation's centenary with a performance at the Thessaloniki Concert Hall on Sunday, March 18, in cooperation with the Estonian Collegium Musicale choir and up-and-coming Greek pianist Alexandros Sarakenidis. Vasilis Vasilatos, a versatile local percussionist who blends classic European jazz with traditional tunes from Greece and the Balkans to produce a contemporary, underground sound, is performing at the Aliko venue in downtown Athens on Friday, March 24. He is joined by an eight-member band and Alexandros Iliakis on vocals. Admission costs 5 euros and the show starts at 10.30 p.m.

The Honorary Consul of Greece in Lugano, Switzerland Alexandros Papadatos-Beis has donated pharmaceuticals valued at 7,000 euros to the general hospital of the island of Zakynthos.

The hospital's director, Despina Tsaridou, thanked the consul in a letter, expressing hope his action will serve as a precedent.

It seem unlikely that the leader of the ultranationalist Popular Orthodox Rally (LAOS) party, Giorgos Karatzaferis, will face bribery charges after it was revealed that two middlemen in an arms deal paid 1.6 million euros to his offshore company, sources have told Kathimerini.
