While the limelight continues to shine on the Covid-19 pandemic, deforestation in Brazil's Amazon rainforest quietly continues to soar. The area of deforestation destroyed in the Brazilian Amazon in April 2020 was 64 percent higher than in April 2019, according to official government data from Brazil's National Space Research Institute (INPE), which uses satellites to track deforestation.

The Paris Commercial Court has ordered two affiliates of Amazon (Amazon) to pay a fine of 4 million euros for contracts with participants in the company's trading platform that did not comply with the code of commerce, BTA reported.

The number of wildfires in the Amazon jungle continues to grow, although the government has introduced a ban on fire making for farmland cleaning, AFP reported.

In the first 48 hours after the ban was introduced, data from the satellite of the National Space Research Institute showed 3859 new outbreaks, of which 2000 were concentrated in the rain forest area.

Brazil is ready to accept international financial assistance to extinguish the Amazon fires, but only if the country controls the funds. This was announced by the spokesman for the Brazilian president. So far there is no reaction from the G7 countries. On Monday, at a meeting in Biarritz, they offered $ 22 million to fight the Amazon fires.

Brazil said on Aug. 27 it was ready to accept foreign aid to help fight fires in the Amazon but only if it could determine how it was spent, in an apparent attempt to smooth over a public spat between the Brazilian and French presidents.

Brazil is open to receive financial assistance from organizations and foreign countries to fight the fires in the Amazon.

This was announced by a government spokesman after the Brazilian authorities had earlier rejected the G7 proposal. The condition, however, is for Brazil to decide for itself how to use the funds.

Brazilian warplanes are dumping water on the burning forest in the Amazon state of Rondonia, responding to a global outcry over the destruction of the world's largest tropical rain forest.

Leonardo DiCaprio gives $ 5 million for the fight with the fires in the Amazon. The Environmental Protection Fund (EPF), which also features Steve Jobs' widow, has announced that the funds are available.

DiCaprio is heavily involved in the fight against the climate change and has repeatedly called for the Amazon situation to be taken seriously by the world elite.
