Turkey aims to preserve sturgeon population

The Central Fisheries Research Institute (SUMAE) in the northwestern Black Sea province of Trabzon wants to preserve the population of sturgeons with a project for developing breeding techniques. 

While the sturgeon tadpoles care center is in SUMAE, the breeding center is located in special pools in the Çamlıhemşin district of another Black Sea province, Rize.

Bears storm village in Black Sea province

Some bears came from the wild to the Çiçekli village in the Çamlıhemşin district of the Black Sea province of Rize and destroyed around 25 houses in the Kale village while looking for food.

"The bears damaged the doors and the windows with their claws and shattered whatever they found inside the houses," said Mehmet Ali Yanmışoğlu, the muhtar (local head) of the village.

Local seeking family of French climber who disappeared in 1988

Feridun Altaş is on a trail to find the family of a French mountaineer who died while climbing the Kaçkar Mountains in the Black Sea region 32 years ago.

Altaş, a resident of the Çamlıhemşin district of Rize province, believes bones that he buried in 2000 belong to Philippe Tardieu, whose whereabouts remained unknown for many years after he disappeared.

Urban transformation in Black Sea region's 'green haven' to kick off by end of this year

An urban transformation process, run by the state-owned Housing Development Administration of Turkey (TOKİ), will begin in the idyllic Ayder Plateau located in the Çamlıhemşin district of the Black Sea province of Rize by the end of this year, the local governor has announced.

Five firms commissioned with preparing a layout for the transformation of the Ayder Plateau in the Çamlıhemşin district of the Black Sea province of Rize will each offer a model to the authorities, with a two-story limit imposed by the government for development in the idyllic area.
