Alleged Russian mob members face trial in Turkey

Suspected members of a Russian crime gang detained last week for allegedly planning an armed assault in Istanbul had their first day in court on Feb. 3, state-run Anadolu Agency reported. 

Some 17 defendants, including the group's alleged leader Guram Chikhladze, were sent to Istanbul's Çağlayan Courthouse, Anadolu Agency cited anonymous sources as saying.

Turkish plane leaves China with evacuees

A cargo plane with 42 passengers departed from China's Wuhan city for Turkey after evacuating Turkish citizens from the heart of a deadly coronavirus outbreak, state-run Anadolu Agency reported on Feb. 1.

Eleven military personnel, six health employees, two journalists, and a Foreign Ministry representative are on board the plane that arrived at 6 a.m. local time (2200GMT) in Wuhan.

Turkish court sentences 3 over killing stray dogs

Three men on Jan. 27 were sentenced to 10 years in prison apiece for poisoning stray dogs in capital Ankara, according to state-run Anadolu Agency.

The Heavy Penal Court No. 5 in Ankara also imposed a punitive fine of 15,000 Turkish Liras (nearly $2,524) on each defendant, Anadolu Agency cited anonymous sources as saying.
