More than 300 Refugees and Migrants Have Been Transferred from the Island of Lesbos to Athens

A passenger ferry from Lesbos Island to the Piraeus port of Athens arrived in the early morning with 367 refugees and migrants, who will then be deployed by bus to reception centres across Greece, MIA reported.

Another 20 refugees and migrants are expected to arrive from Kos Island.

Traffic disrupted in central Athens for Chinese president’s visit

Police shut down central avenues in the Greek capital on Monday morning as a two-day visit of Chinese President Xi Jinping got underway.

The road closures concern Syntagma square, the Presidential Mansion and the area around the Acropolis Hill.

The Syntagma metro station will remain closed and trains will pass through without stopping.

Competition watchdog confirms bank probe

Greece's competition watchdog confirmed on Friday that it had raided all the country's major banks a day earlier as part of an investigation into collaboration between lenders.
Inspectors raided the head offices of National, Piraeus, Alpha, Attica and Eurobank, along with the offices of the Greek bank association, bankers said on Thursday.

Cooperation with China, Russia and the US

Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis spent four days in Shanghai this week promoting Greece's exit from the crisis and attracting foreign investments. He met with China's political leadership and representatives of important Chinese firms and discussed cooperation between the two nations, which is expected to deepen further with the Chinese president's visit to Athens next week.

Piraeus Bank concludes NPE deal with Intrum

Piraeus Bank has concluded a deal with Sweden's Intrum to create a company to service its bad-loan portfolio, it said on Wednesday.
Bad loans are the biggest challenge facing Greek banks, the legacy of a crippling debt crisis which shrank the economy and sent hundreds of thousands into unemployment, constricting the ability to repay debt.
