Drapetsona a step closer to getting a park
The Attica Regional Council has expropriated a 20-hectare plot belonging to the National Bank of Greece, paving the way for Piraeus' Drapetsona suburb to get its first proper park.
Along with several parcels of land already owned by the municipality, the new plot is seen as the necessary addition to launch an ambitious overhaul of an area that once housed a waste treatment plant.

Thousands leave cities for Easter break
Thousands of people have joined the exodus from Greek cities for the Orthodox Easter break, taking to the roads to reach their villages or boarding ferries to the islands. Traffic Police are out in force on the national road network to ensure that the exodus, which is to peak on Saturday, runs smoothly.

Piraeus Bank receives Global Custodian award
Global Custodian, a trade publication covering the international securities services industry, handed Piraeus Bank the Emerging Markets Continued Excellence award for the region of Europe in London last week, in recognition of its top-quality services.
Global Custodian was also celebrating its 30th anniversary at the annual Leaders in Custody awards.

Ferry services suspended due to strong winds
Passenger ferries remained docked in ports around Greece Friday, cutting off connections between the islands and the mainland, as winds reached speeds of 9 and 10 on the Beaufort scale.
There were no ferry services from the main ports of Piraeus, Rafina or Lavrio.

ND leader unveils 'realistic' public works proposals

An increasing number of cruise passenger arrivals in Greece are from the US, according to Athens International Airport data, which reveals American arrivals have increased over 113 percent during the last five years, with many traveling to the country for its varied cruise options.
