Over BGN 500,000 Raised for Flood-Affected Bulgarians
A nationwide campaign has raised more than BGN 500,000 for the victims of the floods in northeastern Bulgaria, Saturday.
The money has been raised through sms donations containing the text "DMS VARNA" to the short code 17 777 and will be used to aid all flood-hit areas in the country.

The tragedy in Varna's district of Asparuhovo is caused entirely by a human error, experts told the Capital.bg website.
According to Asen Lichev, director of the Water Management department in the Environment and Waters Ministry, the main cause of the flood is “the humans' suicidal behaviour”.

Asparuhovo Deputy Mayor: Gullies Partly Caused Disaster
A drainage gully in Varna's Asparuhovo was dysfuctioning during the floods as temprorary outlets were located on it, the Deputy District Mayor argued.
Radoslav Koev suggested in an interview with Dnevnik.bg that the location of commercial venues where water is to be deviated from the streets have severely affected the drainage infrastructure of the region.
NGOs, Red Cross, Volunteers Go To Varna's Aid
Hours after tragedy struck in Varna, NGOs Bulgaria's Red Cross (BRC) and volunteers organised donation campaigns and volunteer teams to aid the flood victims in Asparuhovo.
There are two official donation campaigns – one of BRC and one of the Bulgarian Donations Forum and Nova TV national channel.

Pre-Trial Proceedings Launched into Deaths Caused by Floods in Varna
A team of investigating police officers has opened pre-trial proceedings into the cause and circumstances of the death of at least ten people in the floods in Varna.
The pre-trial proceedings are supervised by a prosecutor from the district prosecutor's office in Varna, according to Radoslav Lazarov, spokesperson for the local prosecuting authority, as cited by dnevnik.bg.

Varna Mayor Ivan Portnih complained that he managed to get help from the central authorities as late as 1 am on Friday after an evening of severe flooding.
