Four life sentences for quadruple murderer

A mixed jury court in Patras has handed a man four life sentences after convicting him of the murder of four members of the same family in March 2022.

In a case that shocked the country, a 32-year-old father, a 37-year-old mother and their two children, aged 1.5 and 2.5, were found dead in their home in Andravida, a village in the Peloponnese region of Ilia.

Iniochos 2023 air force drill starting on Monday

The Hellenic Air Force (HAF) begins its annual medium-scale exercise Iniochos out of the Andravida Air Base in the Northwest Peloponnese on Monday. 

The multinational exercise runs until May 4 and will include the participation of the air forces of Cyprus, France, India, Italy, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Slovenia, Spain and the United States. 

Search for missing pilot in F-4 crash continues for third day

A search-and-rescue operation continued for a third day Wednesday for a Hellenic Air Force officer who has been missing since the fighter jet he was flying went down over the Ionian Sea in western Greece. 

Search-and-rescue operations cease after 72 hours as per standard procedure. However, there have been exceptions with some missions being given up to 48-hour extension.

Search teams find wreckage of F-4 fighter jet

Search teams on Monday found wreckage of a two-seater F-4 fighter jet that crashed in the Ionian Sea off western Greece.

Search and rescue helicopters from the air force and the navy are continuing their efforts to locate the missing pilots. Some local media earlier reported that the two pilots ejected from the aircraft but authorities could not confirm the information.

A two-seat fighter F-4 "Phantom" of the Greek Air Force crashed in the Ionian Sea during a training flight, the two pilots are missing, Kathimerini reported.

A statement from the General Staff of the Greek Air Force said the incident occurred at 10:30 a.m. 25 nautical miles (46 km) south of the Andravida air base in the northwestern Peloponnese.

Syrian toddler exits camp, drowns on beach

Greek authorities say a Syrian toddler has drowned at a beach in southern Greece after the boy wandered away from his parents and exited a migrant camp.

The Ministry of Citizen Protection, which oversees Greek police, says that the boy was 2 ½ years old. The boy drowned Sunday afternoon after leaving the camp in the city of Andravida in the western Peloponnese region.

Fighter jets to fly over Athens in annual exercise

A formation of seven fighter jets is due to fly over Athens on Thursday evening as part of the multinational Iniohos exercise, authorities said.

The formation will consist of F-35, F-4, M-2000 and Tornado jets from Greece, the United States, Italy and Israel. It is due to conduct flights over central Athens between 6.20 and 6.30 p.m.

Four aircraft fly in formation Tuesday as part of the annual joint Iniochos exercise, involving activity across the Athens Flight Information Region. Members of the air forces of Greece, the USA, the UK, Italy, the United Arab Emirates and Cyprus are taking part in the exercise, the aim of which is to boost the readiness of the air forces in the region.
