Russian ambassador to Turkey presents credentials

Russia's new ambassador to Turkey, Aleksey Yerhov, presented his letter of credentials to President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan on July 28. 

In May, Yerhov was appointed Russia's new ambassador to Ankara five months after the assassination of former envoy Andrey Karlov.

Yerhov is the former consul general in Istanbul.

The Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office has identified five suspects in connection with the murder of Russian Ambassador to Turkey Andrey Karlov and is pursuing the possibility that one of the five might have ordered the assassin police officer to kill the envoy, daily Yeni Şafak reported on June 12.

Russia appoints new ambassador to Turkey after predecessor's assassination

Russia on May 18 appointed Aleksey Yerhov as its new ambassador to Ankara, five months after the assassination of former Envoy Andrey Karlov.

The appointment comes ahead of Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev's visit to the country for a meeting of heads of states of Black Sea Economic Cooperation (BSEC) countries in Istanbul on May 22.
